Iodine is found in the environment in the ocean. It is not mined. It can also be found in some sea fish, water plants, the air, and drinking water. Iodine is first extracted from natural brines and oil brines. When extracted it then heated to purify it.
We use iodine in the environment for many reasons. The positive effects iodine has on the environment is that it is naturally found in the air. When it combines with water particles and precipitate to the soil the soil then absorbs it. When the plants that in that soil then the plants get iodine. When an animal eats the plant they absorb it and when eat that animal we then gain iodine. The con's of iodine is that it is radioactive. It can get into the air by nuclear power plants. When it releases into the air we then breathe it in affecting our health. A compound that is used in the environment is Hydrogen Iodine or HI. HI is used in organic and inorganic synthesis. |
